Entertainment design is an exciting field for any artist to get into. But first let me tell you a little about myself. Since childhood art has fascinated me. I started my profession as an illustrator in 1972.Thats when I graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design. I started out working in agencies doing storyboards and illustrations. Having a diversity of talents has helped me in my career.Cartooning is a rewarding field and one of my favorites.Conceptual design has always been my forte though.
I found Entertainment Design to be a perfect fit for me. Universal Studios hired me in 1993. This turned out to be the biggest change in my career. My position was designer of special projects under Lee Nesler my art director . The position covered every thing from storyboards to illustrations. I illustrated the age and distress of buildings and docks. I was part of the team that created Orlando police logo. My concept they selected. Afterwards I did the final art that you see today. Entertainment Design gave me so many opportunities as an artist.
After leaving Universal Studios I went to work for Itec entertainment. Itec is an entertainment design company located in Orlando Florida. They have designed and built countless parks and venues around the world. Itec opened up doors for me that I could never have imagined. It allowed me to do everything from Concept design to final show illustrations, storyboards and more. Entertainment design companies rely on beautifully illustrated show paintings as a reliable tool for clients. Show paintings gives the client a clear vision of their park before it is even built..While at Itec I completed a series of sculpted animals for the merry go round at Give Kids the World. Give kids the world is a Small park located in Kissimmee Florida For terminally ill children. Itec has donated a lot of time and money for this amazing park. The center piece of the park is a fanciful mushroom marry go round. I worked on that project as well as the Castle of miracles.
It soon became evident that if I didn’t get into computer art my future in the entertainment design world would be severely shortened .That was a decision I never regretted making. The Coral painter program was my preference over Photoshop. Don’t get me wrong, I still love to do traditional art. It’s just that today in this field ,Computer illustrating is much faster and accurate. When I first begun I would prep boards with gesso and transfer the sketch to the board. It was messy and time consuming. Coming home with my clothes covered with paint wasn’t good either.
In 2015 I decided to retire. Even though I still stay active as an illustrator working from home. It is very rewarding and relaxing. Please visit my website Born To Illustrate , And don’t forget to leave me a comment. My wife and support can be viewed at, http://www.coroflot.com/lillionofjudah.
